Yesterday was my birthday; so I decided to try a new look. You only live once right?
Yes, I went strawberry blonde for my birthday!
Well not actually; I had a little help from lace front wig Outre Zenn in color DR30.
Out the pack, Outre Zen is a long layered style with lots of body in the top; pretty bombshell glamorous. I cut the excess lace along the front of the wig, and made a more defined part using a pair of tweezers. I left a little bit of my hairline out on the left side of my head and a tiny strip of hair out on the right (no hairline). I made a natural part in my own hair and lined up the part in the wig with the part in my hair and covered the part with a bit of my L.A. Girl Pro Concealer in Medium Beige to make it blend a little better.
The ends in the back began to tangle and frizz as soon as I tried the wig on, and the shedding was CRAZY. The hair is synthetic, but it is heat safe up to 400 degrees. I tried curling the long layers on 350 degrees. It refused to curl. I gave up after a few tries and decided to use a light solution of setting lotion and leave in conditioner and set the long ends with plastic rollers. I sat under the dryers for about 30 minutes and then let the hair cool. When I removed the plastic rollers, the ends curled slightly, but as soon as I finger combed them they went straight again. Hmm... I was becoming a little annoyed.
I decided to try setting the long layers with a little water and flexi-rod and left them in over night. When I removed them the next morning, the wig had a slight curl at the ends. Once again gently loosening the curls with my fingers left them a thick mess, and using a comb to remove the tangles, made the curls completely disappear. So much for that idea.
Frustrated, I handed my husband a pair of scissors and told him to cut the hair to the middle of my back and help me get rid of that frizzy synthetic birds nest at the ends. So much for that too because somehow he thought the middle of my back was my shoulders. When he was done, I ended up with a birthday bob! Next time I think I'll put it back on my wig form and cut it myself, but since the wig was pretty inexpensive, I just went with the flow, and made it work.
I'm not sure if I'll try this wig again. The cut helped eliminate a lot of the shedding, but I don't like the red highlights in the DR30. I think I'll try straightening it completely and see how it goes. I must admit, you can't really go wrong for such a cheap wig, and I have seen a lot of ladies online wear it long, and then cut it into a bob as it ages to get more wear out of it. Many of them look great, and really made this wig work for them.
No regrets; it was fun trying a different look and it definitely opened me up to trying more color in the future.
